Dr. Calvin Tran

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Calvin Tran is a first-generation American and the middle son of parents who immigrated from Vietnam. Raised in a family grounded in hard work, integrity, and dependability, he developed a deep sense of responsibility and drive early in life. Influenced by his parents’ entrepreneurial journey, he gained early exposure to leadership, adaptability, and problem-solving in the face of real-world challenges. His experience as a high school football player further shaped his appreciation for teamwork, resilience, and the shared strength that comes from overcoming adversity together.

Dr. Tran earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida, majoring in Molecular Biology and Microbiology with a minor in Psychology. During this time, he distinguished himself not only academically but also as a leader and mentor, serving as a lead tutor in rigorous pre-medical coursework including organic chemistry and physics. He was deeply involved in a Christian fraternity, where he served as Secretary and later President, and experienced significant personal growth as he developed a faith-centered worldview grounded in compassion, service, and intellectual curiosity.

He went on to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida. Although initially drawn to sports medicine, his clinical rotations revealed a profound connection to psychiatry. He was immediately drawn to the complexity of mental health care and the opportunity to engage deeply with patients’ lived experiences—aligning both with his natural curiosity and his commitment to compassionate, whole-person healing.

Dr. Tran completed his psychiatric residency at Centerstone of Florida, where he further cultivated both his clinical expertise and his leadership capabilities. He is particularly energized by solving complex challenges in patient care and healthcare systems, often integrating multidisciplinary collaboration to improve outcomes and create more effective, patient-centered solutions.

Following residency, Dr. Tran joined Elite DNA Behavioral Health, where he practiced as a general psychiatrist for nearly five years, including more than three years as Regional Medical Director. In this role, he became known for his collaborative leadership style, his ability to navigate operational complexity, and his commitment to building cohesive, high-performing teams.

Dr. Tran now serves as Chief Medical Officer at North Port Behavioral Health, where he is excited to help lead a dynamic and growing organization. He is passionate about building a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence, with a vision of establishing the hospital as a leading provider of behavioral health services along Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Clinically, Dr. Tran brings broad experience across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. He is well-versed in the treatment of behavioral, mood, psychotic, and substance use disorders, and takes a thoughtful, multidisciplinary approach to care. He is particularly committed to helping patients and families achieve meaningful understanding, improved functioning, and lasting progress in the management of complex mental health conditions.

Outside of his professional role, Dr. Tran is a devoted husband to his college sweetheart of nearly a decade and a proud father of three young children. He values time with his family and enjoys staying active through pickleball, spending time at the beach, maintaining reef aquariums, and working on cars and home improvement projects—interests that reflect both his curiosity and hands-on approach to life.
